SUPPORT UMD STUDENT SUCCESS

You can help provide free access to E-textbooks at UMD

One of the most common barriers to student success is the high cost of buying textbooks. In some cases, high prices may force some students to forgo purchasing textbooks, negatively affecting their performance in the classroom.

At UMD, a unique partnership between the Kathryn A. Martin Library and the UMD Stores hopes to address this issue. Each semester, the library provides students free access to 80-120 required course texts and provides links to those e-books into the course Canvas site.

This program has the potential to save UMD students a combined total of more than $125,000 every semester.

You can help support student success and expand equitable access to necessary textbooks with a gift to the UMD Library Course Content Support Initative Fund. Your gift today will help the library meet the rising cost of acquiring etextbooks and expand the program to help even more UMD students freely access the course materials they need.

“The library’s Course Content Support program is an effective way to save students money and help make a degree from UMD more affordable. In addition, these e-book versions of course texts that students access for free are convenient - library staff link the text in Canvas so that it is available on the first day of class, accessible from anywhere at any time!"

What UMD students are saying:

Having the library offer the text for this course was extremely helpful. Books can add up to so much, and I'm already paying for tuition, so I would really appreciate more books through the library."

"Being able to have access to the science book we used was amazing! This helped my peers and I create awesome lesson plans. We spend so much money to attend UMD and then the added price of textbooks is a lot so it felt amazing to have even one book be free for us."

"Having access to the books online saved a lot of time, money, and availability. I was able to do my homework anywhere, at any time, as long as I had Internet access."
