Our son, Elijah, was born on July 21, 2012 with Tetralogy of Fallot, a combination of four congenital heart defects. He had his first open heart surgery when he was two months old. Due to complications after surgery, including cardiac arrest and a short stint on ECMO, Elijah was in the hospital for 40 nights! While in the hospital, we met many families whose children had been there for MONTHS and some even over a YEAR. We began realizing how quickly expenses add up. In honor of our son’s fight and miraculous recovery, we wanted to help other families.
We consulted with nurses, social workers and other CVICU families to determine how we could best help. There wasn't anything in place to help families with meals, parking and transportation, so we knew that was the perfect area to offer support and Elijah’s Fund was born!
We kicked off the Fund at Elijah's first birthday party by having guests bring donations in lieu of gifts. People were very generous and Elijah's Fund is off to a great start. We hold various events throughout the year to raise money for Elijah's Fund.
Thanks in advance for your donation and helping so many families affected by congenital heart defects!
