Crowdfunding 101

The University of Minnesota Foundation crowdfunding website provides U supporters with an easy way to create customized fundraising pages for U causes. All gifts made on this site are fully tax deductible. Since launching the website in November 2014, U supporters have helped fundraise for everything from U medical research to student scholarships, and more.

Whether you’re raising funds as part of a U event or you want to fundraise for a U of M cause to mark an occasion, such as a birthday or anniversary, our online fundraising page builder makes it easy.

Making an impact is easy.

Step 1: Create your own fundraising page.

  • Click here to start setting up your fundraising page and telling us a little bit about what you’ll be fundraising for. There are more than 10,000 causes at the U you can help support.
  • Once we’ve reviewed your idea, we will send you a login to our website so you can finish building your fundraising page–upload a photo, a video, and tell your story.
  • Submit your page for final review and approval. We’ll let you know when it’s live.

Step 2: Tell everybody about your fundraiser!

The most effective way to raise money is to email your networks. In addition, share your page on social media, use print marketing items, or add a link to your email signature. The more people you engage with, the faster you’ll reach your goal. When promoting your page in social media, be sure to use #UMNGive.

Step 3: Watch the donations roll in and say thank you.

As each donation comes in to support your U cause, know that our team can’t thank you enough. Because of you, lives are being transformed at the University of Minnesota. Be sure to thank your donors promptly and share your appreciation!
