The Gold Humanism Honors Society is an organization of medical students dedicated to serving the medical community and the larger community, through frequent service and with sincere reflection on our role in the world. Your donations will go towards carrying out service projects, such as Laundry Love.
Laundry Love occurs at Chicago Lake Coin Laundry, across from the Midtown Global Market at the edge of the Phillips Neighborhood - a neighborhood known for its rich diversity, as well as social and health disparities. In the past 3 months, despite waning funds, 52 loads of laundry have been provided to community members. In addition to the free loads of laundry, volunteers provide activities to occupy children and allow parents to focus on the task at hand or build community with others present. Volunteers also listen to the stories of those present, helping them to feel heard and connected.
The Gold Humanism Honors Society is also responsible for planning and leading the Mental Health Awareness Conference, a day of seminars, workshops, and social events focused on bringing to light the importance of mental health among healthcare providers and the larger community, and on discussing and sharing ways that mental health can be improved.
