Hi, my name is Mikaela Sarran and I am a Senior Captain of the UMD Dance Team. Dance has been a part of my life since I was 3 years old. I have danced for the last 18 years doing all forms of dance at a Dance Studio, Dance Company, Competition Team, High School Dance Team, Competition Coach, with a Dance Agent and now my UMD College Dance Team. I am pursuing a major in Public Health and a minor in Dance. I am the only 4th-year UMD dance team member and I just happen to be the oldest at 21 years old. I never thought I’d be old at 21. I have been lucky to have danced with this amazing College dance team over the years, and have met many longtime lifelong best friends. During my first, and Freshman year, we were 2-time defending champions at NDA nationals in Daytona Beach. We took 2nd that year and was 2nd during my Sophomore year. Last year we attended UDA in Orlando. We competed against 35 college teams from across the nation and, surprising to many, took 3rd place. What a proud moment for our team. In the past 5 years, the UMD Dance Team has been NDA National Champions for 2013 and 2014, NDA 2nd place 2015 and 2016, and took 3rd place at UDA 2017. We are a captain run team with no coach so as a captain we need to give up many hours of our free time for this team but it is an honor to do so. We dance at football games, basketball games and attend the UDA National Championship in Orlando, plus we are involved in as many school events and activities as we can. My hope is that I can teach and inspire as many young dancers as I can in my lifetime and watch them shine as they “Dance Like No One Is Watching”.
