Anton Ezekiel Delgado was born a twin on January 16, 2010 in Russia. He was born with a very rare skin condition called Epidermolysis Bullosa or EB.
EB is devastating genetic condition to which there is currently no cure. In hopes of strengthening Anton's skin and improving his quality of life, he underwent a Bone Marrow Transplant at the University of Minnesota in March 2015 under the care of Dr. Jakub Tolar. The BMT donor cells would help to strengthen Anton's skin and prevent further blistering and sensitivity to touch and friction. The BMT was successful, and Anton's skin began to improve. Wounds that would never heal began to grow skin, and places that were previously sensitive became much stronger. However, Anton suffered a setback in November when he was diagnosed with intussusception. On December 15th, after complications from surgery to correct the intussusception, Anton passed away peacefully with his parents by his side.
Anton maintained a very special relationship with Dr. Tolar and his family all became great advocates for the groundbreaking research Dr. Tolar continues to work on.
When people asked Anton what he wanted to be when he grew up, one of his answers was always that he wanted to be just like Dr. Tolar and find a cure for EB. You can help his dream become a reality and support this groundbreaking research in Anton's memory. Thank you!
