My name is Ali Parfitt and I'm a junior captain for the '17-'18 season. I am currently a sophomore at UMD majoring in exercise science and minoring in applied dance. I plan on pursuing a master's degree in athletic training with a dance concentration. With that being said, dance plays a large role in my life. I started dancing at the age of 2 in general classes and was competing nationally by the age of 9. In high school, I was balancing AP classes with multiple jobs and still scraped up the time to continue my passion. Thanks to Short Dance Studios for instilling a life long work ethic, amazing friendships, and a second place to call home, I was able to continue my dance career in college at UMD. After my first year as an active member of a collegiate dance team, I was nominated a junior captain. In addition, I have judged a competition for Just for Kix as well as assisted Master teachers for Triple S Dance Competition/Nationals. On the side of being a full-time student, I return to my home studio to teach students ages 5-18 in styles ranging from ballet to hip-hop.
My passion for dance continues to grow with the wonderful opportunities that have been presented to me. But, college and dance can add up over time and lighten the wallet. As a club team at UMD, funding is limited which puts a strain on us dancers. From costume fees, airfare to nationals, choreography fees, to even apparel, paying for dance team plus college tuition every year is very tough. We are fundraising and volunteering to lighten the load a little but that only covers so much. A little donation can go a long way. Even helping me share this page with your friends will be greatly appreciated.
UMD brought me to this amazing team and has really kept my passion alive. I thank you all so much for your donations! Go dogs!
