My name is Madi Hjermstad. I am a sophomore at UMD and a 2nd-year member of the UMD dance team. I have been dancing since I was 3 years old and have been in love with it ever since. I started my dancing years at a local recreational studio, Holly's Center Stage Studio. In 4th grade, I decided I wanted to join the competitive dance world and switched to Spotlight Productions Dance Studio. After 5 years at SPDS, I switched one final time to Studio 4 Dance. I was on the Lakeville Lake Liners my freshman year of high school for the fall season. While dancing in the competitive world, I also had the opportunity to assistant teach for 6 years. I loved to dance but I loved watching the younger dancers form love and passion for dance. My major at UMD is Psychology, but I plan on changing it to Exercise Science to become a Zumba instructor or I might transfer to a school with an Animal Science major. Alongside dance, I have a huge heart for all animals and would really love to find a career where I can help and care for animals. Dancing while also spending hours on hours on hours studying for classes can be a bit stressful. This year I really am going to focus on my grades so I can possibly receive scholarships to transfer to somewhere with an Animal Science major. If you didn't know already, the UMD dance team is a captain led team. Meaning 3 members of the team (usually upperclassmen) take charge and coach the rest of the team while also coaching themselves. We are also a club sport meaning we getting very little funding from the school. Each year, each dancer pays around $2500 out of pocket for monthly dues, costumes, etc. Donating to my page will help me cover these costs to help send me and the team to Disney World for UDA nationals. Any amount is very much appreciated. Thank you for reading my story!
