CH Fallchase Made in the Shade CGC "River"  lost his fierce and determined battle with Hemangiosarcoma less than 30 days from the time it was discovered.

River had just turned 7 on November 15, 2015. We lost him the day after Christmas. River was his joyous, clownish grinning self since his splenectomy November 24. He was wild and engaging Christmas Day, but he collapsed the next morning. On the Crash cart at the emergency hospital, he knew that this was serious. Although he was too weak to move, he drank the water we held for him and in his so Golden way, he gave us the biggest grin ever as the needle went in him as if to say "I tried, so sorry, don't be so sad". His engaging, gregarious and clownish antics earned him not only titles but also many human fans as well as furry fans both big and small all over the country. We are comforted knowing this insidious disease did not cause him pain. It is well known that this silent killer causes a ruptured tumor to bleed out and kill in a very short time. We are also comforted that River's offspring will carry on his charms and charisma.

We fully support and are very excited about the Shine on research project led by Dr. Modiano at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. The anticipated result will be preliminary tests for detection of circulating Hemangiosarcoma cancer stem cells along with a safe and reliable treatment option for prevention of this disease. This research will hopefully be rolled out to the community at the end of the project; we pray local veterinarians will have these tools available to detect and treat this horrible cancer that is taking so many of our Golden Retrievers as well as other breeds at such young ages.

In memory of our cherished River, will you help us fund this so desperately needed campaign to save our furry friends?
