Help us achieve our goal! This fall marked the 20th anniversary of the MGIS program so we are going to go big with a $7500 goal and celebrate the great achievements of our graduates, students, faculty and staff! Note that the total on the progress bar is $7180; this reflects donations we have already received for 2017 from three people totaling $320 ($100 to the Fellowship Fund and $220 to the Annual Fund). I will continue to modify the progress bar based on any contributions to the MGIS Fellowship fund during this campaign.

Last year, thanks to your generous support, we raised almost $5,000 for the Master of Geographic Information Science (MGIS) Annual Fund! The Annual Fund has been instrumental in providing immediate support for the professional development of our current students in a number of ways.

During the 2016-17 cycle, we were able to provide funding support to Jake Arndt who worked at the Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena through the NASA Develop program; Travis Fried who was awarded a Judd Fellowship for his summer research project in Nepal with Kathmandu Living Labs;  Nicole Helgeson who participated in the UCGIS summer program on cyberGIS and geospatial data science as well as the UCGIS Symposium in Washington DC; and Megan Sisko, who participated in the 2017 Esri User Conference Student Assistantship program. Additionally, three students were given significant support to attend the Minnesota GIS/LIS Annual Conference in Duluth. Finally, we were also able to give the GIS Student Organization funds to supplement their grant awards for the highly successful GIS Career and Networking Fair that is open and free to the public!

Funds raised during our last campaign (part of the 2017-2018 funding cycle) have thus far supported several students to participate in a variety of professional development opportunities including Frank Wagner who attended the NACIS conference and entered the map competition; Kathy Dooley who gave a presentation at the Academic High Altitude Conference and three students who attended the Minnesota GIS/LIS Conference in Bemidji. Special shout out to Kevin Ehrman-Solberg who won first place in the graduate student paper competition and took home the $1000 cash prize.

We anticipate funding several more students during the remainder of the funding cycle as they apply for Esri UC Student Assistantships and internships, attend the AAG conference to present papers, and other professional development activities this spring and summer.

Your continued support of the MGIS Annual Fund will allow us to fund more deserving students for the next academic year in 2018-19.
If you prefer to contribute to the MGIS Fellowship Fund for a longer term investment, then visit the MGIS Fellowship Giving page and give today!

Thank you so much!
