Inspiring enthusiasm for the biodiversity of our planet by making outdoor science education more accessible at a site famous for ecological insights.
Cedar Creek is the birthplace of modern ecosystem ecology and the source of numerous discoveries that have shaped how we see nature and understand our role in it. It’s also a microcosm of Minnesota with oak savanna, prairie, and boreal and deciduous forest.
Each year Cedar Creek’s education and community engagement programs serve approximately 10,000 people. This includes more than 4,500 K-12 students and teachers. Field trips are booked several months in advance, and our hope is that kids will learn and fall in love with these ecosystems through hands on experience.
We have a vision of building and planting the Minnesota Ecology Walk near our outreach center where prairie, hardwood forest, coniferous forest, and savanna will all be together. This will extend that experience to more people and will expand access to hard to reach areas with a wheelchair accessible path. Help us as we raise funds to make the field station more accessible to the many guests and students who visit each year.
